A naturally sustainable alternative to PU foam
for a better tomorrow.
At Enkev we’ve always believed that doing things naturally was just the right thing to do… in this particular moment as our world’s climate crisis escalates, we feel the importance of creating naturally sustainable fibres more than ever.
As the leading processor of natural fibres, we feel it’s our duty to address the problem. So, Enkev are on a mission to create a sustainable alternative to PU foam from the world’s best natural fibres.
According to Circularity Gap Report (2022), between Paris Agreement in 2015 and COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, more than half a trillion tonnes of virgin materials such as biomass, fossil fuels, minerals, and ores were consumed. Volumes of waste are generated year after year as these materials are not reused or recycled, contributing to biodiversity loss, plastic and air pollution and global warming.
In Europe alone, around 40 million mattresses are discarded each year, with the majority ending up as landfill, creating the equivalent of 600 kilotons of waste – of which more than half - over 300 kilotons constitute of PU foam. These numbers are not tolerated by the nature and our planet is not able to hold them.
CO2 is emitted by plants, animals, and humans. But the levels of CO2 emissions that have peaked dramatically over the last 50 years are those that are caused by human activity and especially by burning fossil fuels. This rising level of CO2 fuels the greenhouse effect that leads to global warming. We witness consequences of this every day as we are exposed to terrifying headlines in the media: heatwaves and droughts, extreme rainfall, rising sea levels.
What if there already was a solution to all this?
Enkev believes that the secret lies in cutting the problem at the root – eliminating virgin plastic production by using natural and fully circular materials. In order for that to become a reality, Enkev has a solution that enables to detach from virgin plastic dependence – PURe-polyurethane replacement.
PURe is a natural or circular and recyclable solution for PU foam replacement, matched by density to a wide range of synthetic foams in use today. It offers a simple way to reduce the reliance upon PU foams, taking strategic steps to move them towards a more sustainable product build.

01 PURe Natural
PURe Natural is produced using either plant-based fibres or animal-based fibres, skilfully blended, and bonded using Latex resulting in a product that is 100% plastic-free.
Our PURe natural allows you to cut down your CO2 footprint 6 to 20 times compared to PU foam. The choice of natural materials varies between:
- Coir
- Horsehair
- Hemp
- Wool
02 PURe Circular
PURe Circular is carefully chosen fully circular fibres for the most comfort and lowest environmental impact.
It is proven that Enkev’s circular solution Labyrinth by far outruns PU foam due to its circularity compared to PU foam which is to this day not being recycled. When Labyrinth is recycled once, its footprint is 1,37 times lower than PU foam; recycled twice - 2,02 times; recycled three times – 4,66 times lower. Moreover, no virgin materials are used in this process, helping you not only to reduce your CO2 footprint but also to cut down dependence on virgin material, this way contributing to transition to a circular economy.

03 PURe
PURe is available in Vegan Society approved, (FR and Non-FR in UK), GOTS option is offering a fully certified organic product for today’s most demanding customers.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.
Enkev Group is proud to be a leading provider of GOTS certified fibres, and currently holds certification for over 24 different fibres or blends.
